This is a call for research on use, risk use and abuse within ANDTG. The call is part of a government commission to Forte on public health and prevention. For this call around SEK 45 million is reserved for the period 2021-2023.
The Swedish research council for health, working life and welfare (Forte) has been tasked with contributing to research into public health and prevention. The assignment highlights the need for in-depth knowledge of preventive measures, their effectiveness and how they can be implemented in practice. The task is connected to questions concerning inequality in health and the national goal of public health policy.
One area where these different factors meet in a clear way is in addiction research. Forte is tasked with funding research in the ANDTS area, where different forms of legislation and public intervention set the framework for access to different products, where the individual’s social context contributes to norms and values around different types of use, and where the individual’s own actions play a major role. At the same time as they are also affected by physiological processes in the body.
Focus area
The research should focus on prevention and the interplay between individuals, group processes and the institutional and commercial environment, as well as to what extent existing initiatives contribute to better public health. Further, the focus is limited to research on use, risk use and abuse within the field of “Alcohol, narcotics, doping, tobacco and gambling”.
Grant types
One grant type is available within this call – project grants. Project grants are grants for individual research projects. The grants are approved for two or three years. Only one application per main applicant is allowed.
Grant limit
There is no maximum grant amount within this call, but the budget must be explained in the application. Forte grants an average of about SEK 1.3 million annually in project funding.

To apply for a project grant within this call you must have completed a doctoral degree no later than the date of the call closing.
